The First thing that we have to give the child is love but love has so many definitions... To my mind, love is something which enriches and improves a person. It is only through love, that we can reach out to our dear children and really connect with them. If a child in any way feels the absence of love, it becomes absolutely impossible to connect with the child, and issues relating to discipline arise. Love does not necessarily mean that we give in to each and every whim of the child. Some of us might say that since we love our children, we should give them everything they demand. It is not love if we simply give children what they ask for but it is love if we can discipline them and prepare them for the arduous journey of life. Like the kite cannot fly high without a string, a child cannot rise without discipline.

Even though a child may grow up with a great amount of knowledge, without discipline, it is all for nought. It is this discipline which gives courage and self-confidence and lets the child work hard, reach the Light of Knowledge and develop a vision for herself/himself which can lead to the Truth.
